Writing anyone off in sport can be difficult, and predictions have an alarming tendency to come back and bite those who made them. These past three weeks have seen pundit after pundit proved wrong as Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen makes his critics eat humble pie.

Allen was written off but has had a flawless season so far, notching 12 touchdown throws in three games - which beats the record (10), set by Jim Kelly 28 years ago. Kelly is a Fall of Hame occupant, but Allen has beaten his record passing yards (1,040) set in the first three games.

He’s come a long way from the raw rookie who threw interception after interception and struggled to find his man. Allen was previously criticized for those two factors but has tightened up his game in nearly every area.

Allen has also broadened and expanded his leadership credentials, and hasn’t been afraid to criticize his own team. After the Bills’ recent win against the Rams, The LA Times reported that he said: “I’m very happy with how resilient this team was, but I’m also a little mad at myself for allowing us to dip like we did.”

This shows a confident man who is the shadow of his former self. Making it as a pro athlete is never linear, and there’s always peaks and troughs as young players develop and learn their game.

We’ve seen plenty of Allen’s troughs, but now he’s in his peak and is loving his life.

After the praise and the Hall of Famer mutterings, the QB has to work hard to ensure he stays at the top for as long as possible.
