Novak Djokovic won the final, but there were bigger questions that came through from the tournament. Is the era of the Big 3 (Nadal, Djokovic, Federer) almost over? Can we finally say that there is a group of new players ready to take over?
Before getting into this, let’s recap a few things here. Novak has now won his 17th grand slam title. He is now only 2 grand slams behind Rafael Nadal and 3 grand slams behind Roger Federer in the race for the most titles. He is the real deal and there is no question about that.

However, after two weeks of tennis in Melbourne, we have seen that even though the Big 3 were pushed to the brink of elimination - somehow they mustered the energy to do just enough and get the win.
It’s exciting times for the sport of tennis. The big talking point going into the 2020 season will be to see if anyone from the next generation - Thiem, Medvedev, Zverev, or Tsitsipas can finally break through and win a grand slam.

If that doesn’t happen then a stat line like this will continue to go on:
Top three men’s players in rankings - The year 2009 - Federer, Nadal, Djokovic.
Top three men’s player in rankings - The year 2020 - Djokovic, Nadal, Federer.
Who do you think will be the first to break the domination of the Big 3 at a Grand Slam?
